Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is a leading cause for infertility amongst women. It is currently thought to be due to excessive insulin production, to which the bodies of some women respond by producing elevated levels of male hormones or androgens. This link to insulin means this condition is not uncommon amongst women with type II diabetes.

How It Happens

In a typical women’s normal menstrual cycle, several follicles will develop within the ovaries. Each of these follicles contains an egg(ovum). As the menstrual cycle continues, only one of these follicles will remain which in turn will produce an egg during ovulation.

After the egg has sufficiently matured, LH levels will rise resulting in the egg bursting from the follicle and thus causing ovulation. However, in women with PCOS there is not normally enough female hormones necessary for ovulation to occur, and therefore these follicles don’t mature in the normal fashion to become eggs. Some of these follicles will go on to develop into cysts, and therefore under ultrasound the ovaries may show lots of little cysts around the peripheries – an appearance doctors refer to as a “string of pearls”. It’s not uncommon to see one or two cysts in the ovaries on ultrasound, however the appearance in PCOS is distinctive.

How It Affects Fertility

Because in PCOS ovulation doesn’t occur, progesterone is not produced. Progesterone is the hormone which causes the lining of the uterus to thicken and become more ‘hospitable’ to an embryo.

The failure of ovulation also means that even if a sperm has made it to the right spot, there won’t be an egg there to meet it.

Symptoms Of PCOS

Some common symptoms of PCOS to look out for are:

The absence of a period, or

an irregular period,

hair growth on back, chest or face,

thinning hair,

obesity,

high insulin levels or type two diabetes,

acne, or

pelvic pain.

Keep in mind that symptoms vary from woman to woman, and you certainly don’t need to have all of these to have PCOS.

How It’s Treated

There are several steps that can be taken to correct the problem:

Some women can treat their PCOS simply by losing weight.

Metformin can also be used, which is a drug that improves your body’s reaction to insulin.

Clomid is a fertility drug often used in the treatment of infertility relating to PCOS.

At the time a couple finds out that they are infertile, there are many options available to them to pursue their dreams of having their own newborn baby in their arms. For many couples, the primary thing that stands in the way of this dream is money.

Aside from a host of natural ways to boost fertility, there are multiple different medical fertility treatments available however these can often be very expensive.

In-vitro fertilization(IVF) is one very effective option but just one in-vitro treatment can cost the hopeful couple thousands of dollars. And for most couples, it will likely take more than one treatment to get pregnant.

Aside from IVF, some fertility medications can cost in the vicinity of $1,000 per month and other assisted reproductive technology procedures can cost over $4,000!

The effect of all of this is that many couples simply can’t afford to finance such expensive fertility treatments by themselves. Thankfully there is supplemental infertility insurance for couples that will allow them to pursue the treatments they need without having to sell the house. In most cases it’s quite affordable and you can usually get it from most insurance companies (keep in mind that each policy is different so you really need to do your homework before you buy one).

For the usual monthly premium, insurance providers will supply you with a plan that will cover a select range of fertility treatments. The treatments usually include the standard diagnostic fertility tests, artificial insemination, and other types of assisted reproductive technology. However, they may also cover diagnostic test procedures, including laparoscopic surgery.

Normally, infertility insurance plans cover the most inexpensive treatment that will work for the couple. They typically only those cover treatments for a particular number of cycles also, often between three and five. In most cases the use of donor eggs and/or donor sperm is not covered by infertility insurance.

Different Types Of Insurance

There are three different types of infertility insurance. Initially there is standard health insurance. This type of insurance requires that you pay your monthly premium in exchange for specific fertility coverage.

Another kind of insurance is a refund program. These will require you to pay upfront for your fertility treatments, and collect the refund later. If you are unsuccessful and don’t have a baby then somewhere between 70% and 100% of the money is typically paid back to them.

The third type of infertility insurance to consider is ‘financing’. The hopeful couple can take out a certain kind of loan to cover the fertility procedures. If they are unsuccessful and do not have a baby, then these loans do not need to be paid back in full.

What Qualifications Are Needed To Get The Insurance

Unfortunately, not every couple is eligible to partake in infertility insurance. It obviously varies from insurer to insurer but there will be certain criteria that you will need to meet before they will approve your application. These criteria usually require you to already hold an existing insurance policy with that company. They may also have age restrictions as well as a designated period of time for which the couple has to have already been trying. In many cases, the couple must also hold on to the policy usually for a year before they can make any claims.

If you’re facing medical treatments to address infertility, then you may wish to consider if insurance is a good choice for you. Keep in mind the massive number of ways to naturally increase your fertility, which don’t need medical intervention.

Acupuncture originated in the Orient and has been used as part of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) for an extremely long time. Bascially, it’s the technique of inserting and manipulating very fine needles into specific points on the body. It’s used to treat anything from pain to complex medical conditions. Many women will swear by the benefits of acupuncture for many things, including infertility, but does it really work?

What Acupuncture Does

Acupuncture is thought to affect blood flow in a beneficial way. It can increase blood flow to the endometrium, helping to facilitate a thick, rich lining. Given that it helps regulate blood flow, some believe that blood flow is therefore increased to the vital organs and thereby hormone levels are regulated. There is also a suggestion that acupuncture improves ovarian and follicular function.

Recent Studies

There is growing evidence that acupuncture can improve the success rate of in vitro fertilization (IVF). There are an increasing number of fertility specialists and centers offering it as a part of their IVF treatments. With acupuncture, the embryo transfer process in IVF was shown to have significant improvements resulting more often in a pregnancy, as shown in the recent study by Stener-Victorin et al from the Departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology Fertility Centre, Scandinavia and the University of Gothenburg.

Acupuncture can also be used to treat fertility problems like ‘spasmed’ tubes. Although blocked tubes will not respond to acupuncture, spasmed tubes are thought to be ‘de-spasmed’ with acupuncture.

Watch Acupuncture Being Performed

Watch this video to see acupuncture being performed.

<noembed>LinkedTube</noembed>

Just like physical therapy, acupuncture is really a process designed to help the body to heal itself over time. Women can therefore be treated for three to four months prior to an insemination, in vitro fertilization (IVF), or donor-egg transfer. Women are also encouraged to receive acupuncture treatments pre and post embryo transfer, inline with the Swedish study mentioned above.

An extremely high number of women will deal with some sort of infertility in their life. Many of these women may show some symptoms of infertility while other aren’t aware there’s any problem until they actually start trying to get pregnant. Given that the causes of infertility are broad and varied, the signs and symptoms will obviously range from woman to woman (not forgetting male factors also!).

A couple should see their doctor if they still haven’t become pregnant following a year of ‘trying’ – where trying means unprotected intercourse at least three times a week. It’s a good idea to initially see your primary care physician or general practitioner who can initiate the ‘workup’ and offer some early advice. If needed, you may then be referring on to a dedicated fertility specialist.

Signs Of Infertility

Among the many potential signs of infertility, the most common for women is to have an irregular menstrual cycle. Although an irregular menstrual cycle may be one of the signs of infertility, it is also quite common and could also point to a number of other things, so in itself it doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re infertile.

Another common symptom of fertility issues isa weight problem, specifically being overly thin or obese. For women who are excessively thin (bordering on emaciation), they can have problems conceiving because they lack the necessary nutrients. Alternatively, women who are heavily overweight or obese may suffer hormonal issues, which in turn can affect their reproductive health.

Also worthy of consideration is that substance and alcohol abuse may lead to infertility. Although these are really causes of infertility rather than true signs of infertility, I mention them because they are clear things that anyone can ‘notice’ but may not be aware is adversely affecting their fertility.

Male Factor Infertility

Symptoms of infertility can also be seen in the male in the relationship. Anatomical or physical problems may be obvious signs of infertility in men. One consideration is undescended testis, which can be a factor in infertility, or a varicocele, which is often felt as a swelling in the scrotum.

Overall, if a couple is having persistent difficulty getting pregnant, don’t jump to the conclusion that you’ll never have children! There are so many measures that can be taken to improve your chances of getting pregnant, and avoid common mistakes.

Couples that are enduring fertility problems frequently feel alone throughout their battle. They will notice other men and women with their own children and question why it’s not them. They overlook the fact that there are so many other couples in the world that have gone through or are currently enduring the same things they are.

There are actually around 7.3 million women in the United States alone between fifteen and forty-four who have problems getting pregnant. Most of these women aren’t even aware that they have a problem until actually start trying to have children. Some women have have actually already had children with issues like polycystic ovarian syndrome(PCOS), but the diagnosis didn’t arrive until after the children had. For most couples however this is not the case.

There are countless couples who have gone through fertility treatments of one description or another. Often when seeing happy couples with their children, couples who are having problems don’t even consider that perhaps that parent had to receive some sort of help too! Chances are (given how common fertility problems are) that someone you know will have had help of some degree.

Some Numbers…

In 2002 11.9% of women in the United States between the ages of fifteen and forty-four had received some kind of infertility services. Of these:

6.1% had received professional advice,

5.5% had received some sort of medical assistance to prevent miscarriages,

4.8% had undergone a test relating to their fertility,

3.8% of women had received drugs to aid ovulation, and

1.1% of women had undergone artificial insemination.

In addition, 11.8% of women in this age group have impaired ‘fecundity’ which basically means they have problems successfully carrying a baby to full term.

It is commonly known that as women age their ability to become pregnant decreases with the decline in the number of their eggs. However, the percent of childless women who have ever received any infertility service between the ages of 35 and 39 years of age is 15.2%. Childless women who have received any infertility service between the ages of 30 and 34 years of ages was 17.3% and women between the ages of 15 and 29 was only 2.9%.

As odd as it sounds, these statistics are actually encouraging, because it says that of women without any children at all by age 39, most of them hadn’t sought any help – implying they chose not to have children, rather than couldn’t. The flip side is that if you really want to have children, chances are you will.

Another way of looking at these numbers is too consider how many women in each age bracket are infertile (only childless women counted):

27.4% of women are infertile by the ages of 40 and 44

22.6% of women are infertile by 35 and 39 years of age

16.9% of women are infertile by the ages of 30 and 34

11% of married women are infertile by the ages of 15 and 29

Keep in mind that just because there are problems getting or maintaining a pregnancy, it doesn’t mean that it’s impossible. There always remains a range of options, including a whole host of ways to massively boost your chances of getting pregnant naturally.

The finest joy in life is to become a mother or father, and have a little child enriching your life. Sadly for a few folks getting pregnant can be harder than expected. Infertility is described by the inability to biologically get pregnant after a year of regular intercourse.

This site is dedicated to helping those people who fall into this group, through providing accurate and scientifically backed information, as well as information on how to massively boost your chances of getting pregnant through natural means.

Generally speaking, a woman’s fertility will slowly decline with age. This is simply part of the natural aging process, however it certainly does not mean that older women can’t have children.

As part of this aging process, women will lose an average of around 1000 eggs every month. Additionally, if they have conditions ‘at work’ with them such as PCOS, endometriosis or particular sexually transmitted infections, these can worsen over time and may lead to infertility later in life.

It’s a sad truth that many relationships have tragically ended when a couple faces the hard truth of reproductive challenges. Whether it’s because of unfulfilled expectations, anger issues, a lack of support, communication breakdown, or interference from outside the family, some realtionships simply do not weather the storm of infertility.

Your relationship can be different. Infertility and reproductive issues are not an automatic death sentence, if you know the secrets to keeping your relationship intact through this difficult time. As we’ve discussed stress itself can negatively impact on your fertility, and avoiding relationship stress is always a good idea!

Here are a few quick and simple tricks to keep in mind:

Communicate

If you’re thinking that your spouse is not being supportive enough, what do you mean by that? Can you pinpoint exactly what he or she can be doing to improve? And once you have that clear in your mind, have you told your spouse these things? Does he or she know exactly how you feel about the situation and about your relationship in general?

If you haven’t taken the time to communicate these issues clearly to your spouse, how can you be disappointed or upset if they are not handling them the way you would like?

Keep your expectations realistic

You can’t expect your spouse to know how you’re feeling at all times, and you can’t simply demand that they think, feel, or act the way you want them to, when you want them to. They’re going through a difficult time as well, and their response and way of handling things might be different than yours. If you want to constantly talk things through, but he or she wants to work their frustrations by getting up and going out, then understand these differences and make allowances.

Focus on the positive

Infertility is a very difficult issue, but there are millions of people in the world who are very frustrated with their lives for this and other reasons as well. Millions are homeless or go to bed hungry every night, millions have lost people they love in death. Yes, having a child may make your life seem complete, but are you thinking about all the things you do have? Do you concentrate on the positive aspects of your life while you wait for this situation to take care of itself?

If you’re a positive, well-rounded person with a good outlook in general, chances are your mate will enjoy spending time with you regardless of your difficult situation, and your relationship is bound to be stronger overall.

Of course, if you do feel that your marriage is at the breaking point, you do well to seek the professional help of a counselor, but by applying these simple tips every day, you can be sure that your relationship will be strong and solid, no matter what.

It’s unfortunate that in our scientific day and age, where modern technology has unlocked so many of the riddles of how our bodies actually work, that there are still so many “old wives’ tales” that abound when it comes to health. And of course infertility is no exception. Folk remedies and treatments, rumor and innuendo, are all common when it comes to dealing with problems getting pregnant.

So let’s take a look at some of the most common myths aroundinfertility, and more importantly what is the real truth behind them? Here are the top three:

Myth #1: It’s always the woman’s fault.

Not true! As we discussed in the article on male factor infertility, pregnancy may rely solely on the woman and her system, but conception is a 50/50 split between the man and the woman. It’s their responsibility equally, and most studies have shown that in cases of infertility, the problem is as often the man’s as it is the woman’s, or it’s a combination of both of them.

For generations, it was always thought that a woman’s identity was wrapped up in her ability to produce children, but hopefully modern methods of understanding the human body can set those thoughts aside. It’s also helpful to get away from this myth because if the problem is due to something in the man’s system, the solutions are obviously very different to those relating to problems with the woman’s system.

Myth #2: You can’t conceive after 35 without medical intervention.

There’s probably a lot of moms who had babies over 35 and even into their 40’s who would challenge this myth loudly and clearly! Yes, it’s true that a woman’s reproductive system slows down as she ages, as does so many other parts of her system, but there is no magic “cut off age” of when conception can no longer occur.

As long as she is ovulating and her uterus is in a condition where it can receive a fertilized egg, and she is with a man who has healthy sperm, then she has a chance to get pregnant.

Myth #3: It’s all in your head.

Stress does take a great toll on the body, not just mentally and emotionally, but physically as well. It saps your energy and upsets your balance of hormones. It’s also a great distraction that can cause your muscles to go tense and your breathing to become labored.

But it’s also shortsighted to think that all fertility problems are stress related. Modern science has given us a window into the human body like never before. We can see in a lab how there are physical issues that result in infertility, including low sperm count, poor sperm motility, malformed sperm, lack of ovulation, and damage to the uterus, among so many other causes.

Thinking that infertility is just a mental or emotional problem is dangerous because it can cause someone to waste valuable and precious time when they should be seeing their physician.

The following video offers some more insights into infertility myths…

<noembed>LinkedTube</noembed>

So if you are able to set aside the common myths surrounding infertility, then you can better see how you will be able to address this problem correctly.

Infertility is a frightening thought for many couples. The idea that you can’t have a baby as easily as you thought you could – or as easily as some other couples seem to be able to – can be somewhat overwhelming.

And of course there are always nightmare stories of the terrible procedures and treatments that some couples have had to go through, from painful operations to daily injections. The thought of having a surrogate mother, while certainly a viable option, is not a welcome one for some women and couples.

But are the problems with infertility always to such an extreme? Do the only treatment options a couple have always include medical intervention and expensive procedures? Is surrogacy your only option?

The Good News

The good news is that this isn’t always the case. Oftenthe problems that one is experiencing with infertility can be addressed with much more simple solutions, and may include some easy lifestyle changes as well.

For one thing, smoking is a leading cause of reproductive issues for both men and women. For men, the toxins for cigarette smoke kill his sperm and decrease his blood circulation, leading to a low sperm count, malformed sperm, and decreased sperm motility. These are the leading causes for a man’s infertility.

For women, smoking robs her uterus of necessary proteins that are needed for successful implantation of a fertilized egg, and interferes with the fallopian tube’s ability to drop a viable egg in the first place. This lack of ovulation is also a leading cause of a woman’s infertility.

Obesity is actually another contributor to infertility, especially for women. High cholesterol levels can interfere with normal hormone levels and cause undue pressure on the fallopian tubes, also interfering with ovulation.

Medications, both prescription and over-the-counter types, can decrease one’s fertility. Some also interrupt healthy hormone levels and others decrease blood circulation. Speak to your doctor if you’re taking any type of medication and are also experiencing problems with fertility.

Bedroom Antics

Yes, the way we have sex can help or hinder the whole process of getting pregnant.

Having sex while standing, sitting, or with the woman on top makes a man’s sperm need to work against gravity in order to impregnate her. It’s also recommended that a woman elevate her hips and buttocks after sex, so as to not lose any of the man’s seminal fluids after sex and to increase the odds that they will be able to make the journey to fertilize an egg.

So while medical treatment may be necessary in some cases of infertility – and many couples are grateful that there are so many options available to them when the time comes – there are many, many things that can be done before reaching this step to massively boost fertility.

Wanting to have a baby and bring a child into the world is one of the strongest desires that anyone can have, particularly for women.

Many don’t feel as if their life is complete until they have a family, and that usually means more than one baby.

Being faced with the dreaded word “infertile” can be terrifying for many people, especially women who have pictured a child and family their whole lives. The subject can make you feel terrified (it certainly did for me), as you worry if you’ll ever have that family, if people will see you as less of a person, and if your marriage will survive this ordeal!

Face Your Fears

It’s important to face your fears and consider the possibility of a problem. Only after you’ve done that will you be able to adequately assess whether or not you actually have an underlying problem or not, and what you can do to boost your fertility right now. Infertility can be faced and it can be cured; it can even be treated simply, without medical intervention.

If you dread the many painful, expensive treatments that you assume come along with the curing of infertility, set those fears aside. We can help you better understand your own body and reproductive system, and help you understand how in most cases, the easy treatment options are the best.

Addressing your fears and making a step forward also helps decrease your stress as you feel a sense of control about your situation. As discussed earlier, stress itself may decrease fertility and only make matters harder, so it’s one more reason to face your fears today.

This information represents a comprehensive system devised from the latest in scientific research around fertility. No tricks, no gimmicks, no “old wives’ tales” – just time tested and accurate information backed up by the latest scientific research.

We’ll explain:

How your bedding may be causing miscarriages

The optimum ‘way’ to have intercourse

How to pinpoint your most fertile times

What you should be doing immediately after sex

What foods to eat and which ones to avoid

And a whole host of other information…

If you’re tired and frustrated with all the empty promises out there of what pill you can take or powder you can drink, or are tired of hearing about how only invasive surgery can help, then it’s time you got the facts.

Infertility is not permanent. You can successfully conceive, naturally, on your own, if you know the secrets of how.

Visit our website at FertilityFound.com/main for your chance to find out how you can begin to take the first step toward fulfilling your dream of having that beautiful bouncing bundle of joy. You can have a family, you can make that dream come true.
